The Past

It is generally believed that some organelle structures, chloroplast and mitochondria specifically, within modern cells where once derivates from separate organism (Stewart et al 2005). It is believed approximately 1-2 billion years ago these structures where enveloped by a separate organism and included within its cellular structure.  In modern biology, organelles and mitochondria are seen as integral and cellular function could not occur without their presence. When comparing this process to the symbiotic relationships observed in hydrothermal vents communities it may be the case that eventually these organisms may become so integral to each other’s success that they may eventually become indistinct from each other
