Primary Consumers

The next level up along the food chain, typical assemblage include grazing organisms. Grazing species are present in hydrothermal vent communities such as lepetodrilus elevatus however as mentioned earlier the symbiotic-host organisms have been included within this group. The reasons for this are due to 1) the abundance of such organisms and 2) the direct dependance of such organisms on the endosymbiotic bacteria (the primary producers).
