The phyla Annelida is one of the most ‘abundantly represented’ group of animals associated with hydrothermal vent-sites; supporting approximately 130 species out of the approximated 700 described-species in this phyla (Pradillon & Gaill 2009).

Two characteristic and large polychaete-annelid worms found in abundance at many vent sites, particularly those of the East-Pacific Rise, are Riftia pachyptila, the Giant Tube Worm and Alvinella pompejana, the Pompeii Worm (Desbruyères et al. 2006; Pradillon & Gaill 2009).
