Final thoughts

Organisms living in the deep sea undergo massive and drastic changes in morphology in order to adapt to life in the deep sea, with every adaptation meaning the difference between being eaten or crushed and surviving. Such is the extent of adaptation that some creatures can no longer return to the surface layers of water without literally falling to pieces. There is a startling level of knowledge available about the deep sea, but yet it remains vastly un-explored, every submersible dive reveals new unseen species as we know more about the surface of the moon than the bottom of the ocean but why? Surely the ocean is just as accessible if not more accessible than space, who knows what else is down there, we have already found animals independent of the sun and lakes of brine underwater. It is a truly extreme marine environment, that we know almost nothing about in comparison to other environments, but yet is arguably one of the most fascinating.
