Summary

This is an extreme environment due to being a hugely diverse, rare and productive environment surviving in obligotrophic, and otherwise very unproductive area on earth. The reefs are in delicate balance; tiny alterations having huge implications on the continued existence of this ecosystem. All threats discussed can be decreased and limited to thresholds which corals can withstand through improving infrastructure and knowledge in less developed countries to get the most out of the environment. If the world’s population continues to exploit this, and many other ecosystems, organisms that are yet to be discovered will eventually become extinct.
